will it work for YOU?

If you spend any kind of time on social media...

Or on YouTube for that matter...

You will find stories of people who got great weight loss and body recomposition results with a variety of methods...

From carnivore to raw vegan, and everything in between.

I don't have a positive view on veganism, since I don't think it's good for human health, and so I don't work with vegans.

That's the only nutrition disqualifier I use when I screen applicants for my 1-on-1 coaching practic.

I've worked with vegetarians, omnivores, and carnivores.

Many clients I worked with wanted a keto or nearly keto way of eating, and found great success.

And conversely, I've had many clients who did not get the results they wanted going either carnivore or keto...

And hired me to help them get unstuck with a more flexible approach, like this client of mine, below:

If you've spent any time on Twitter/X lately, you might have noticed that I've updated my bio to:

Microbiologist, age 70. I helped 1400+ men, women & couples get lean and fit in 1 hour/week @ManganCoaching without keto, TRT or Ozempic (or any drug at all).

And this is what inspired this email.

I wanted to break down what I mean by it, since I am already using the maximum number of characters, and thus can't add further nuance.

So allow me to unpack this statement:

"Get lean and fit in 1 hour/week without keto, TRT or Ozempic (or any drug at all"

By lean, I mean getting into an optimal body fat % range (for men, 15% or less, for women, 23% or less), or if you want to put it more simply, get rid of excess body fat, and have a flat midsection.

This is related to BMI, knowing that BMI is not a very precise measurement, since it doesn't account for either body fat or muscle mass. It's merely about height and weight, and while it's directionally accurate for most people, there are a lot of "skinny-fat" folks who can get a false sense of security from it...

And a small but real percentage of the population that has very high muscle mass, who may get categorized as overweight (based on height and weight alone) even though they may be in excellent health and have no excess body fat.

By fit, I mean two things: muscle mass, and cardiovascular health.

By 1 hour/week, I mean the grand total time investment to get lean and fit is never more than 1 hour per week, which takes care of muscle building AND improving cardio/stamina/VO2Max.

By without keto, TRT or Ozempic (or any drug at all), I mean:

  • I never require any client to aim to get, or stay in ketosis, or to exclude carbohydrates
  • I never require a client to take any drug, and have no relationship with people who sell them

Now, do I have clients who choose keto as the nutrition portion of their plan? Yes!

Do I have clients on TRT (or HRT for women): Yes!

Do I have clients on Ozempic or other GLP-1 drugs? Yes!

This is the nuance I can't include in a social media bio.

My message is that one doesn't NEED any of these things to get excellent results. I know this to be true because at least 1000 of the 1400 clients I've served did not go keto (or carnivore) and did not use any drugs.

But conversely, I can support someone who wants to use one or more drugs, and/or who prefers a carnivore or keto approach, nutrition wise.

This is the beauty of a truly 1-on-1 relationship.

I used to use the words "coaching program", but I stopped, because it can be interpreted as an unpersonalized series of steps, where every client gets the same experience, gets the same advice, and follows cookie-cutter instructions.

This is very much NOT how I work with clients.

I meet someone where they are, take great care in understanding their preferences and constraints, and then craft a series of protocols that are meant to be as "low fuss" as possible...

And then support them in implementation, iteration where needed, to ultimately create sustainable results.

And with that said, I have a few spots open for October.

If you want to explore working together 1-on-1, without the pressure of a sales call (I don't do those)...

You don't need anyone to tell you that exercise matters. You already know. Everyone knows. So why don't more people do it consistently? The usual answers are discipline, willpower, motivation. And if you've fallen off a training routine before, you've probably blamed yourself for not having enough of one of those. But think about where that framing comes from. It comes from the assumption that exercise requires 45 minutes a day, or an hour a day, or 4+ hours a week. At that volume, training...

Maybe you’ve made peace with the belly. Maybe the mirror doesn’t bother you anymore. You’ve got more important things to worry about than six-pack abs. Fair enough. But here’s something that might change the equation… 81% of Alzheimer’s patients also have type 2 diabetes. That’s not a typo. And it’s not a coincidence. Some researchers have started calling Alzheimer’s “Type 3 diabetes” because the connection is so strong. The mechanism? Insulin resistance doesn’t stop at your waistline… it...

There's a competition happening in health and fitness circles. Who can be the cleanest? The strictest? The most extreme? Zero alcohol. Zero caffeine. Zero carbs. Zero plants. Carnivore-only. Vegan-only. Extended fasting. Training twice a day. It's performance art masquerading as health optimization. Here's what nobody seems to want to acknowledge: sustainability beats purity, every single time. Look, I'm not here to argue that alcohol is a necessary component of health. It's not. But the idea...
